A monumental 13-foot-tall piano bench rises unexpectedly from the open playa, supporting a functioning full size grand piano high above the desert floor. Familiar in form yet impossible in scale, the installation transforms an ordinary object into something surreal, evoking wonder, vulnerability, and perspective. By day, it appears stark against the vastness of Black Rock Desert; by night, LED lighting outlines the structure and softly illuminates the piano above. The work reflects on elevation, both physical and emotional, and the role music plays in grounding, connection, reflection, and shared human experience.
