Art of Black Rock City 2026
Resonance
Raylene Gorum — Bay Area, CA, United States

About
Resonance is a suspended pendant of forty layered panels whose shifting linework evokes ripples, tree rings, and waves of sound. Derived from the geometry of Black Rock City, the layered forms transform the city's familiar plan into a visible record of time as it approaches its 40th Burn. As participants move through the Man, the layers align and separate, revealing changing relationships between the vibrating patterns and framed views beyond. Looking back toward the city through the pendant's center, past and present briefly converge. Suspended beneath Cryptomeria, the work reflects the theme of Axis Mundi by connecting forty years of collective creation through the continual making and remaking of Black Rock City.
