About
The Last Shore is an interactive portal inspired by the disappearance of the Aral Sea, once the fourth-largest inland lake on Earth. A freestanding frame filled with suspended reflective elements and transparent droplets creates the illusion of shimmering water suspended in space. As participants pass through the portal, a hidden soundscape evokes waves, wind, seabirds, and voices from the Aral Sea region. Created by Stihia community from Muynak, a former fishing town on the Aral Sea, the work explores memory, loss, and transformation. It creates a symbolic connection between two former seabeds: the Aral Sea and Black Rock Desert, inviting reflection on what remains after landscapes change.
