About
Well, Well, Well is a full-scale wishing well standing in the deep playa. In a place with no water, it is the last thing anyone expects to find and the first thing everyone recognizes. A windlass frame straddles the rim, a rope hangs into the dark, and at the bottom sits a screen showing quietly moving water. When the crank is turned, a bucket descends and a short phrase surfaces, something between a fortune and a question. At night, light rises from the well, and sound drifts up from inside. The piece sits with the distance between what something promises and what it delivers, and trusts that language, offered in the right place, is its own kind of water.
